Why does Scoble blog? He blogs about Microsoft and technology, sure, because he is a first adopter and loves it and wants to share it with others. It is also part of his job at Microsoft. But he talks about so much more. Why?
I've no doubt that people like Michelle Malkin and Charles Johnson over at Little Green Footballs do it to be controversial, to make a name for themselves. Their posts are too outrageous and lack rational thought to be otherwise. Although maybe I'm being too kind...
I'm not sure there is a complete answer - at least not one that can be formulated without a barstool and three Glenfiddichs under your belt. I'm not entirely sure why I blog, after all....

Great questions here Diane. It would be fun to see a brief statement by all the bloggers here to complete the sentence, "I blog because..." Like you, I am still unsure, but I sense that will not be the case in a few months. You?
