Science Teacher Does Go Too Far

As a follow up to my post about the  teacher who showed an anti-Bush video in his classroom, it appears now the teacher is on leave.

I think I've clarified my position on this whole issue in the comments to my original post, but let me do it again here:
  • I don't object to kids being shown information that contrasts with my own world view.
  • I don't object to students being shown videos like this as long as it is in a setting where discussion can take place.  This video was shown in science class, where it clearly does not belong.  It belongs in a History class.
Quite frankly, you are nuts if you think that the diatribes of a teacher are going to turn a group of 8th graders into Bush-haters.  I still remember two teachers I had, one a socialist and one a no-holds-barred libertarian.  While now I look at their view with more sympathy, at the time my friends and I just thought they were weird.  Give the kids some credit for being able to form their own opinions.
