Frank Gruber compares and contrasts the major music providers. To sum up his findings:

Overall, the best service based on pure stats is Virgin Digital.

For the flat out cheapest price, Yahoo comes in at the lowest point

Rhapsody has the slickest software and the most intuitive user interface.

I have a thing about Real Networks (disclosure: my husband spent the two worst years of his life working there) so I won't even consider Rhapsody, but I'm going to check out Virgin Digital.
