
He [the reporter] recounted how, at a conference, Nelson spoke up, saying that we were all doing hypertext wrong...The reporter said that Nelson was really weird and kind of rude.Dave doesn't understand that, to non-techies, a lot of this kind of behaviour does come across as rude. The first conference I went to had someone (either Winer or Canter, I can't quite remember) interrupting the speaker, interjecting comments that focused on a very small detail of the presentation. When I mentioned it to another attendee he said "that is how all of these things go. We talk like we blog."
To most of society that behaviour is wierd and slightly autistic in the way that the person sees only their item of interest. Of course we have people like that everywhere, we call them jerks or self-centered or whatever. But in the tech world it is viewed with reverence and awe.






Calling people names like that is mitey rude, don't you know.
