As an example, if you are a gadget blogger you might talk about not just the gadget you are reviewing or previewing but about what you might use it for, what context in your life might it be just the thing you need. It doesn't need to be over personal either. One of my blogs is on Photography so when we are planning to go away we talk about what we are buying in preparation and when we are on trips we tend to post about how our equipment performed on location. This is absolutely important for bloggers to understand. I blog, write technical articles and news stories. Each is a different medium, with different audience expectations. On a blog I expect to see personality, personal references and a conversational tone.
I am wondering if the "personal-ness" of blogs and blogging might be a reason why people fear blogging?
