I'm lucky - since the WWI I haven't had a relative who had to fight in a war.  A quick review of my family history shows quite the collection of warriors:
  • A Great-Uncle who fought in WWI (office on the USS Yanick)
  • Another Great-Uncle who fought in the Spanish-American war and died in the Philippines
  • Many ancestors in the War of 1812
  • Many, many in the Revolution
  • Several in the French & Indian war
Why this retrospective?  Memorial Day is coming up, and I found this poignant post written by a military chaplain who is part of the team that notifies next of kin.  I'm thankful I'll never have to be on the receiving end of that, and send strength to those who do (and have)
