I do not understand why most Americans see the Phone number database as a big issue. This has nothing to do with whether you are a Republican or Democrat, but rather your rights as an American citizen.
How is it possible for them to say they can figure out terrorist links just by looking at phone numbers? If you call a certain number 35 times do you go to a special database? And how do they know who you are and what is contained in that call? They would have to know your name and record your conversations, otherwise what is the point of collecting phone numbers?
Lastly, the arguement that we give up our credit information and bank information to what is happening today is the same thing is nuts. YOU choose to apply for a credit card, You CHOOSE to apply for a job, You Choose to apply for an apartment, a mortgage, etc. You are given a choice..but in this case there was no choice.
If people do not care, then lets have an opt in and opt out policy on the phone numbers. I would be interested to see who would opt in - so that the government can keep track of your phone number. I suspect that not many Americans would.
