Our Brittney Spaniel, Roxy, had her puppies yesterday. The process amazed my husband, who'd never seen anything being born before. He was smart, though, and let Roxy handle it all.

On first count we had five puppies. By the time I came home we had seven. I counted again an hour later and there were nine and then I recounted and there were ten! I made my husband come down and count with me. Sure enough, ten, good-sized puppies from a 28 lb mother.

Today she is very proud of herself, and very glad to not be pregnant anymore. She went outside and ran enthusiastically around the backyard for five minutes.

I hate to tell the cats they are now outnumbered...
