Roxy is a really good dog, but only 16 months old, so she still has the enthusiasm of a puppy. That enthusiasm includes assuming that everyone loves her, including our 13 year old indoor cat, Java.
Java, on the other hand, is pissed. She's pissed that we even have a dog, much less that she is suddenly allowed inside. The result is that I can't work with both of them in the house at the same time.
The layout of the house doesn't really allow for sectioning off the main floor, but I do have a basement area (where Roxy's den is) and that door can be shut.
So - do I keep Roxy outside during the day and bring her in at night? Do I keep her inside during the day, in the basement and let her outside to "do her duty"? Or do I give Java to the crazy cat lady across the street? (Almost kidding)
Advice, dear readers?
