Stray from your niche

Revisit old news
-
Publish an article you’ve written in advance
- Call someone and get their view on your topic.
They don't need to be an expert, in fact it might be better it they are not. How does someone unfamiliar with the details of your speciality view it? What don't they understand about it? Ask them define key terms you use often in your niche. - Check out your competition, especially the comments.
My personal favorite. Find an interesting article and read the comments. If that doesn't spur an original post, then write a post aggregating what the pros and cons are, as put forth by the commenters. - I do like Andy's "Revisit Old News" idea.
Is that news still accurate, seeing that time has passed? What has happened to the participants subsequently? Do a "Where Are They Now" retrospective - and this works for products as well as people. - Check out what people are talking about most on Technorati.
This is a good way to keep up on, and identify, buzz. - Pick up the newspaper.
What are non-bloggers talking about? Check your local news - is there something there that could apply to a larger audience?

Thanks for the link. It may not have been totally inspirational - if it had've been I wouldn't have a slow news day ;)
"Call someone and get their view on your topic" = #2 Post opinion / forum / consumer views
I like you expansions though - thanks for continuing the conversation.
Best.
PS I love the concept of being a 'top blogger' ;) Amazing what a link from Darren will do.
