
The third case, one of an affair, is more troubling. At what point does calling out a morality mob become a bad idea?
The good thing about it being online is that thousands of people are fact-checking the people who were burned - the crimes (and incidents) they alleged did occur. But such an outpouring of rage is troublesome, reminiscent of the tar feathers used against English sympathizers during the Revolution.

In all three of these cases, the victims lost control of the mobs. In the China case, it became quite frightening.
I'm not sure there is an answer to this, other than one of the golden rule.
