For those not in the know, advertising on websites generate income for the site on which it is found. Money is paid by the advertiser to have the ad placed. So, when fraudulent clicks occur, money is stolen from advertisers. In some cases thousands of dollars are lost.
Estimates of click fraud run from 14% to 30% and higher, depending on whom you talk to. Unfortunately, neither placement services (like Google), no advertisers want to release information to auditors. If there were independent auditors. So no one really knows how big the problem really is.
In a retrospective search of my feeds, I see about 80 posts about click fraud since March, when Google settled its own click fraud lawsuit.
