You can't go far into the A-List without hitting a political blog. Eschaton, written by Atrios aka Duncan Black, has a liberal bent, but an open mind. His posts mainly include quotes from news sources with a few lines of comment. Where things really get rocking are in the comments. Escaton easily averages 100+ comments per post.
If you aren't in the habit of reading comments - you are missing out on the best part of blogs. Comments expand and deepen the story. They can be funny, irritating, interesting, pathos-laden, stupid and brilliant. Sometimes all at once. Comments are what makes a blog a blog - so start reading them and participating.
Back to Escaton, it seems to me the major purpose of this blog is to provide a forum for discussion. The posts themselves merely introduce a topic and Duncan rarely expounds on a subject. It is almost a forum in blog format.
Escaton is #62 on Techorati's Popular Blog list with 15,346 links from 3,220 sites.
