Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest - Brain Candy Meets Heat Wave

Blogcritics author Chris Beaumont marvels at Pirates of the Caribbean and its stellar box office receipts. 
There has been much debate of the merits of the film as an artistic expression, but there is no denying it has tapped into something that is getting people into the theaters, for the record I have seen it twice and enjoyed it very much, moreso the second time.
I can explain it easily - brain candy coincides with heat wave.

During the summer we don't generally want weighty movies anyway, so a light, frothy movie that doesn't require extended cogitation to 'get' (a la Lady in the Water) is required.

Pair that with the extended, triple digit heat wave much of the country is experiencing and you have a perfect storm of movie going.

Oh, and there's Johnny Depp  being over the top as usual - who can resist that?
