Carry On Luggage Problem Solved
In Britain at least, carry on luggage is banned except for a very limited list.  I can't help think that, terrorism aside, this is a good thing.

I'm a carry on person myself.  I hate waiting for my luggage and hate fighting with people who think my luggage is their luggage.  So, I pack light and carry it with me.  The problem is, everyone else hates checking things as much as I do.  I've been on planes that started to feel like Brazilian interior bus trips, with everything from cases of cheap Nevada liquor to supersized sombreros being crammed in the overheads.

But what is the alternative?  Check expensive cameras and computers into luggage where underpaid security people can take what they want?  Arrive in Hawaii to find your luggage went to Minnesota?

We are almost at the point where we need to have security before even entering the airport.  Everything you have - luggage, carryons, purses, etc, go through those fancy bomb screeners.  Then, at least you know everyone in the airport is explosive-free.

Look at the bright side... No more people taking cary-on lugage on the plane. I know they did not say ANY lugage, but why even bring one on now? It was only good to hold something to drink and toiletries and a few magazines. Pack the personal care products where they belong, in stowage. Just carry the magazines in your hand now. Normally, it takes 15 minutes to just get into your seat and another 15 to get off. Not now! 30 seconds and your in your seat! This will shorten the scanning time also. NOTHING TO SCAN. I always check everything at the curb anyway. A blessing in disguise. You already have to go to the carousal, now you just get one more bag. This should have been the rule from the begining.

True, for people who regularly check baggage. I've checked baggage twice in my life - once when going to work in New York State for a summer, and once when going as an exchange student to Brasil for a year. Other than that, I always packed light in a single carry on - even on 2-week vacations.
