The post is very long and contains a lot of Philly references. The short and sweet is that there is a new movie out about former Eagle Vince Papale. People who stood in line at Macy's got free tickets to the premiere. At the premiere Papale's wife smelled like a bottle of booze and acted like trash, kicking people out of their seats, including a black family - one of the few black people at the premiere.
The reason this struck a chord with me is that I have friends who worked at the KingDome in Seattle and said very similar things about baseball wives. While Papale's current wife wasn't even married to him during his football days, what usually happens is you get some unsophisticated kids who get money and expect everyone to treat them like a celebrity. You can take the girl out of the trailer park, but you can't take the trailer park out of the girl.
I was once at the Nordstrom jewelry counter talking to the clerk about a purchase when a baseball wife literally pushed me out of the way and started talking to the clerk. The clerk explained she would be with her in a minute and the wife went ballistic. "You know who I am? I'm [blank]'s wife." Being a Nordie's clerk she didn't say "Who cares", but called a floor manager to deal with the wife.
Ok, rant over...<grin>
