Word ot the Day: Wikiality (Thanks to Stephen Colbert & Wikipedia)

The July 31st edition of the Colbert Report had host Stephen Colbert's needling Wikipedia and creating a new word "Wikiality". Wikiality is define as "the reality that exists if you make something up and enough people agree with you."

Colbert encouraged viewers to change Wikipedia entries about elephants to say that elephant population has tripled in the last six months. Wikipedia sys admin, Tawker, immediately protected all elephant entries, as well as Colbert's entry so only sys admins could make changes.

Tawker is taking it with good humor, though. He is demanding to be put on Colbert's "On Notice" board - the list of his "soon-to-be enemies".

Ironically, Wikipedia suffered an outage about the same time as the airing of the Colbert Report, which sys admins say was an unrelated problem.
