Blogcritic's Eric Olsen: "Perhaps a rich and famous continent will adopt Africa. Yes, its family will miss it, but at least it will be well taken care of, receive an education and healthcare, and grow up to be whatever it wants to be." The problem is that Europe has it's own family problems and North America is too self-centered to have kids.
Defamer: "...the denizens of the African nation still have their knickers in a toddler-sized wad over the Material Girl's so-far successful attempts to thwart local laws and adopt a one-year old..." At least she is taking an 18-month waiting period before adopting: "...we decide we don't like him, in which case, we'll toss him back before the warranty expires and trade for a newer model -- again, just like what happens with anyone else who
PerezHilton, quoting David's father: "He says, "Where were these people when David was struggling in the orphanage? These so-called human rights groups should leave my baby alone. As father I have okayed this, I have no problem; the village has no problem, who are they to cause trouble? Please let them stop. Orphanage life is no good. We leave kids there because we can't look after them properly ourselves. Now my son has been taken by a kindhearted woman, these people want to bring him back to the orphanage."" And he'd have to give the money back - c'mon, get real!
Huffington Post's Karen Finley: "America needs to take into consideration the global impact of adopting other continent's children because of presuming we can provide for them better. The presumption and cultural elitism suggests, why would a child want to be on the dark continent ?" But helping one person, or one small group is so tangible - you can see the difference. Giving any kind of aid to a population is disheartening for many because it is a drop in a very empty bucket.
Madonna's actions are arrogant in the extreme. However, I wish we could get over this whole racial/national/ethnic/religious divide that is tearing the world apart. It would less of a story if the headline read "Madonna Adopts Impoverished Boy and gives millions of pounds to charity"

By all accounts, madonna is a GOOD mother. when did you ever hear of any problem with madonna's parenting? excessive spending on an adopted child is NOT unusual. It astounds me that people see someone like madonna adopt a child from another country and all they can do is trash her.
