Ain't It Cool News insider Massawyrm saw a production cut of Apocalypto, the native language, Central American-based film. (Oh, yeah, made by Mel Gibson - but don't hold that against the film)

Wyrm was impressed, even with the rough cut:

From that point on the film is an emotional vice, as you watch the village you’ve fallen in love with ravaged and put through the wringer. And once the emotion has reached its crescendo, one man escapes and the last half of the film is a brutal, bloody chase film through the jungles of Mexico.

I'm looking forward to the movie because it is different. With so many movies feeding us the same pap over and over, it is refreshing to see an attempt at taking us out of ourselves and putting us into a totally alien landscape.
