I sympathize with the family that got thrown off the plane because their 3-year old daughter was throwing a fit, but let's give a cheer to the airline for taking a stand.
Nearly every flight I've taken to Hawaii (a seven hour flight) has been turned into pure torture because of screaming kids. While I don't advocate turning the plane around in mid-flight, if you've got a screamer on your hands before the plane even takes off - that screamer should go.
I also think they should have a "baby room" on planes. If a kid starts screaming the parent should be sent with the kid to a room like the lavatory where the kid can scream to his heart's content, without turning the rest of the plane into a psychotic nightmare.
