I haven't really been following the brouhaha between Scoble and Engadget, but I do see that Scoble is complaining about the lack of links to his videos. I have a definite opinion about that.

![]() I haven't really been following the brouhaha between Scoble and Engadget, but I do see that Scoble is complaining about the lack of links to his videos. I have a definite opinion about that.
Here is a partial screenshot of ScobleShow. The first two videos on this screenshop are 50 and 40 minutes. The third is 7 minutes. I'm sure these are great, informative videos, but who has time to watch two 40+ minute videos? Considering that I can read about 10 blog posts in 7 minutes, even that one is too long. Time is the real problem here. You will always have people that have the time to watch every new video and listen to every new 30+ minute podcast, but the majority of us simple can't afford that kind of time. |
It's interesting what you say Diane. I've been thinking alot about this recently myself as I've written alot about the online video subject.
With me, I feel the same. When it comes to watching videos online, it's rarely that I do as they're so time consuming and inefficient.
I would rather read text than video as far as looking for and researching what I want anytime. And I don't think I'll ever change that.
Now focused video content for a minute or two may fit more into what I'm willing to consume.
Of course it's different as far as when it's my private relaxation time and I want to watch something on TV distributed from the Internet.
But like you, I don't think I want to watch 40 minutes of anything when I can do so much more reading text content.
Targeted videobytes of 1-3 minutes are fine - and I'd love to see that. I think the main problem is that it is much harder to create/edit a short video than a long one.
Was it Ben Franklin who wrote "I don't have time to write you a short letter, so I am writing you a long one."
